Introducing the 2016 Malibu

A Fresh Face

Many of the vehicles in Chevrolet's lineup have undergone a facelift for the 2016 model year.  One of the largest changes made this year was to the Chevy Malibu.  The Malibu has long been a Chevrolet nameplate, beginning its run in 1964 as a trim level offered on the Chevelle, and becoming its own model in 1978.  The 2016 Malibu redesign is much more than a just another facelift, it introduces to the market a completely redesigned engineering masterpiece.

What's new with the Malibu?

Chevrolet wanted not only to take a bite out of the highly competitive midsize sedan segment, but to become the best midsize sedan available.   Some of the highlights include four more inches of rear legroom over the previous generation Malibu.  Chevrolet engineers were able to add more space to the Malibu while simultaneously decreasing weight and increasing fuel economy.  This was accomplished through a careful engineering process that involved new materials including lightweight aluminum.  Aerodynamics played a key role in making this sedan come to life.  Ques were taken from the successful Impala redesign and blended with modern materials to create this one of a kind sedan.

The 2016 Malibu is now capable of achieving an estimated 48 miles per gallon in the Malibu Hybrid and 37 miles per gallon highway from the new 1.5L four cylinder turbocharged engine.   This was not enough for the Chevrolet team as they also needed to make the Malibu lighter.  Through a careful process, the designers at Chevrolet were able to shed just over 300 pounds!  In the words of Jesse Ortega, chief engineer at Chevrolet, "Imagine you've got a 300-pound lineman riding on the roof of your car and he decides to jump off - you're going to notice a change in performance immediately."  That is exactly what Chevrolet was able to accomplish and you will notice it the first time you drive the brand new Malibu.

2016 Chevrolet Malibu Buyer's Guide

2016 has marked a new era in the automotive industry.  Gone are the days of making sure the vehicle you are about to spend a significant amount of money on has air conditioning and power locks.  Chevrolet now includes some very advanced features on the most basic of trim levels.  Regardless of what trim level you choose, you can have the piece-of-mind that 10 standard airbags, Stabilitrac* and six months of Onstar offer you. There are four primary trim levels to consider while researching the 2016 Malibu; L, LS, LT and Premier.   Also included in the base level L trim are features like push-button start, hillstart assist, power windows, power locks, AC, and automatic start/stop (to help you conserve more fuel at the stoplight).
Stepping up to the LS trim gives you even more Smartphone compatibility by adding a 7 inch touchscreen with Chevrolet MyLink.  MyLink offers more control and functionality to Apple and Android through the tablet-like screen.  The LS trim also includes 16 inch aluminum wheels.
If you want a touch of luxury at an affordable price, check out the LT trim level. Within the LT package, you will find numerous upgrades including LED running lights, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, power adjustable lumbar control and outside heated power-adjustable mirrors.  Personalizing the Malibu to your specific needs is easy with four available packages.

Premier Performance

For 2016 the well-known LTZ trim will now be known as the Malibu Premier.  This one-of-a-kind sedan includes everything available on the lower trim levels, a more refined style and a powertrain that can take your breath away.  The Premier trim adds a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbocharged dual overhead cam engine matted to an eight speed transmission.  Coupled with the weight loss of the 2016 Malibu, the 2.0L engine creates exhilarating performance at a fraction of the cost compared to the big name imports.
